David Pope - Keys

Originally from York, Pennsylvania, David Pope has been hammering on some form of keyboard since he was seven years old. It was pop organ in the beginning, piano when he turned 15, and synthesizers in college (Belmont University, Nashville, TN). Most of his early experience came from playing in church for the “contemporary” service. In the mid 2000’s, he felt convicted to move beyond those four walls and joined a blues band. When asked if that wasn’t the devil’s music, he replied “Read the book of Psalms. King David sang the blues!” In 2011, he and his wife, Stacey, moved to the Dominican Republic. Needless to say, it’s hard to find the blues on a beautiful Caribbean island, but eventually he ran into a blues singer from Denmark who had the pipes of Koko Taylor. He quickly became her “piano player”. His second point of contact was a Russian saxophonist who was looking for a keyboardist for his fusion jazz band. He also connected with Anthony Jefferson, an R&B and jazz singer, who quickly made David his musical director. Between the three, he performed frequently around the island. In 2018, he and Stacey moved back to the states where he became involved in the music scene in and around Orlando, Florida. 2021 brought them to Brunswick County to be close to their daughter in Wilmington. His musical journey hit the ground running with the opportunity to perform a wide range of genres.
